Nintendo Switch 2 Price Leak: Will It Rival the PS5?
Share
Nintendo is set to hold a Nintendo Direct event on April 2, where it may finally reveal new details about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. However, speculation is already heating up over its potential price, raising major questions within the gaming community.
Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Be More Expensive?
Unlike its predecessor, which launched at an affordable $299, the Switch 2 could break tradition with a higher price tag. Analysts are divided on whether Nintendo will price the console at $399 or even as high as $499.
According to Bloomberg, analyst Hideki Yasuda (Toyo Securities) estimates that the cost of the new NVIDIA chip in the Switch 2 could be between $130 and $150—significantly more than the $80 chip in the original model. This could push the retail price to $499.

However, other experts, including Serkan Toto, Yijia Zhai (UBS), and Robin Zhu (Sanford C. Bernstein), believe Nintendo may target a more competitive $399 price point. Additional factors, such as U.S. tariffs and production costs, could also impact the final price.
Strong Demand and High Sales Expectations
Beyond pricing, Nintendo is preparing for a massive launch. Analyst Robin Zhu predicts the Switch 2 will launch in June, with 6 to 8 million units available at launch. This could surpass the 2.7 million units sold in the first month of the original Switch and even outsell the PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch.

Meanwhile, Hiroshi Yamashina (Macquarie Capital) is even more optimistic, forecasting that Nintendo could sell 20 million units in the first year.
What’s Next?
All eyes are now on Nintendo Direct on April 2, where fans eagerly await official details on the Switch 2’s price, release date, and features. Will it maintain Nintendo’s tradition of affordability, or will it enter premium territory alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X?
